A beautiful song..

Posted by ardianto86 at 08:45 PM on March 31, 2006.

This is a new, beautiful song I learnt during the PU yesterday.. and I liked it instantly

Still

Hide me now
Under your wings
Cover me
within your mighty hand

Reff:
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are king over the flood
I will be still and know you are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know his power
In quietness and trust

Reff

Some lessons from physics..

Posted by ardianto86 at 06:06 AM on April 4, 2006.

Work Done = Force * Distance (W = F.s) :

If you want to achieve a certain amount of work done, you can do it in 2 different ways. For some people, they can exert enormous amounts of force. But don't worry if you can just apply a small amount of force, you can always go through a longer distance, perseverance counts, remember the story abt e rabbit and e turtle, hehe..

In Quantum Mechanics, integrating psi square from minus infinity to infinity equals to 1 :

The limits tells us that there's no such thing as a 100% or 0% probability! No matter how small the probabilities are, it never reaches 0! Conclusion : Don't give up in everything you do, even if it seems hopeless, persevere and be happy! =)

In Particle Physics, the so called 'subatomic particles' obtained by smashing atoms using super atom accelerator, exist just within a very short time interval (some even exists for just around 10^-12 seconds) :

Pure things just exist in a twinkling of an eye. It is forced to perish once it made contact with the world, which contains so much impurities. Truth is pure, and is often belittled by many. What an irony..

(wait till my preparation for e physics module, may come up with many more =p)

New way of studying! =)

Posted by ardianto86 at 08:36 AM on April 7, 2006.

Finally!!! I can update my blog again, just finished my programming practical exam, hehee...it was kinda rushing, I finished reading 400 pages or so in just 2 days! can u imagine that? it was super efficient as panic drives me to study, and I didnt feel tired at all for grades really matters for me! (Never bother to read e textbook since I bought it 2 months ago, LoL!)

Actually it was just a plan that I set up for myself this semester. This is just my new way of optimizing the use of my time! Well, in short, my strategy is : bring yourself into panic, and you'll be super efficient! 1 lesson that I learn from the past is that, I always study consistently throughout the semester, and when it comes to exam, I really dont bother to study, perhaps because I feel pretty much confident, or quite fed up of it. Now, I prefer to study other things during the semester, and when exam comes near, I would quickly study everything! This semester was great! I'm able to learn many stuffs, not just the modules that I took, but I studied many topics such as philosophy, religion, I learn to advance my guitar skills, piano, tennis, do consistent Bible reading, gym workout, and of course, pursuing my old passion : physics! I also did sneak to some lectures, learnt some stuffs, and I'm also able to be active in some scientific forums, learning about people's ideas, and be active in other mailing lists too! It was less stressful and I'm able to enjoy it! :D It was so rewarding! I think I'll stick to this strategy, knowledge is greater than grades, remember? And I promise I'm gonna learn as much stuffs as my brain can hold, and panic wouldnt be my enemy, and I gotta put it into use! Thank God that I can be panic about getting low marks =) it's indeed a great blessing, and I shall utilise it to unleash my full potential! =))

Currently feeling: productive

Let's Break The Tradition!!!

Posted by ardianto86 at 11:56 PM on April 9, 2006.

This is to answer those who think that what I posted below is a strange way of studying, hehe..

First, suddenly a new philosophy pops into my mind (actually I just knew how to put it in words, but the idea is not new), and here it goes : Extraordinary successes can't be achieved by going through ordinary ways.

Indeed, we have to come up with something new! Don't stick to conventions, norms, traditions, trend, rules and regulations, whatever! I actually recalled one of my nickname on msn months ago : 3 -tions I hate the most : assumptions, conventions, traditions! =P

(Oops, dont be mistaken, why do I hate rules? perhaps u're asking, well, it's not that I ask you to disobey rules or question authorities, but be open minded and understand what those rules are for! We obey those rules not because of the rules, but because of who are behind those rules, and that we should be humble and respect authority. That's what the Bible asks us to do! On the other hand, to obey rules blindly is to undermine human wisdom and intelligence!)

And 1 quote that I still remember : A wise person obeys rules, but a wiser person knows what the rules are for.

And here's an innovation : Years ago, I was eating "indomie", and it was really hot! I have to reach school early that day and i was a bit late! Suddenly, I thought of putting 1 ice cube into e indomie soup. Afterall, scientifically, it's just like adding some water into it! Knowing that everytime I cooked indomie I never bother to decide how much water to put, well, what is the meaning of adding some more water obtained from the ice cube? Well, as expected, many people object to this, as this was strange, unusual, but as engineers were thought to see things "as a black box", who cares about the road to take? It gives the same output! Haha..perhaps why people object is because they stick to traditions, norms, trends, assumptions (that everything that contains ice is cold, or they tend to think that my indomie is cold?) LoL! Oh, I hate those conventions..and how people are blinded by it..

Paradigms

Posted by ardianto86 at 06:59 AM on April 10, 2006.

Let me come back to philosophy for a while, lol! =p

I just re-read the article 'How do you know what you think is true?'. And the theory of paradigms of thought really disturbs me as it gives me the notion of relativism! Well, in the end of the article the atheist may always argue, using the same weapon, paradigms, to lament "well, that's just your paradigm, why should I believe it?"

There has to be something absolute to fit in right?? An absolute paradigm? that determines everything. And as one gets closer to that absolute, his paradigm can be said more accurate! > <

Next, in the Revival of Non-Foundational Epistemology section, about the Imre Lakatos' attempt on how to determine which paradigm that we should adopt, he based his decision upon observing whether a research project undergoes a progression or degeneration. Now I think that contradicts Kuhn's statement in which a fact or data, is never proven to be neutral. Now how can we ever make a decision then? Or what categorizes as a data? I dont understand!! Perhaps I should read the book itself, or anyone can come with immediate answer?..> <

Pandangan yang berbeda tentang kematian..

Posted by ardianto86 at 04:36 AM on April 16, 2006.

(So called, we take it for granted).

Well..entah..mungkin pandangan saya berbeda dengan kebanyakan orang..

Akhir dari semuanya.. (A Reflection)

Posted by ardianto86 at 06:18 AM on April 19, 2006.

Well..beberapa hari ini saya belajar banyak sih ttg kehidupan. Pertama, ketika acara pelepasan tadi, mungkin banyak diantara kita yang hanya bisa menangis, tetapi sebenarnya, what's the point?

A quote i can think of : Learn something from the past, but lets not drool over it.

Gbu All~! ^_^

Missing opportunities? A lesson from CS1101..=p

Posted by ardianto86 at 02:33 AM on April 20, 2006.

This is just an illustration. Imagine you have an array of integers. To make the model more relevant to real life, lets suppose it is an unsorted array of integers. Your job is simple, to come up with an algorithm to find the largest integer in the array. However, there's a restriction, you can just traverse once, from the first element to the last element of the array. Now, this analogy is similar to picking the right opportunities in life. Too early to guess, and you'll miss guessing the largest integer (or to make it more relevant, large integers). Too late to guess, and you'll realise that it's the end of the array. So..any nice algorithms? Anyone? =)

Here are several test cases to be considered. In which case we are most likely to fail?

60  54  78  73  24  13  19  17  20   21  25

10  20  18  13    5  99  32  21  11   18   7

10  20  41  11    9    8  45    2    3   99   0

(PS : No template variables allowed nor swap values between array elements =p)

Imagination vs Reality

Posted by ardianto86 at 06:13 AM on April 22, 2006.

As human beings, we always complain about things after we have achieved it. Admit it! How many of us who are studying in NUS, before we were admitted, we want to be accepted so badly! We would then imagine, what a big campus, what great facilities the university would have, etc etc, and after we're admitted, we feel that it is nothing at all! We dont feel anything so superb. Well, another example, how many of us ever wanted to go to some place, for in our imagination it was a nice place, but after we reached there it was actually so different! so dull!! so mundane! Yes..indeed, this is a problem we always encounter. We never stop complaining.

Though people always theoritize that this is due to our human, selfish and can-never-be-satisfied nature, there's another way of looking at it! It is because, once we found the reality, it restricts us from imagining things!!! For that's reality! Reality is finite, and our imagination can be said to be infinite and perfect. And when that infiniteness trancends into finiteness, we feel uneasy! We feel bounded! We want to break free! Well..i call this some sort of hope, yeah, hope and imagination always give us the thrill, but when we found out reality, the thrills all gone, and what's left is the cold, inflexible, binding reality.. But till when will we live in our imaginations? better deal with reality! ^_^

Why we play video games?

Posted by ardianto86 at 09:16 AM on April 22, 2006.

For non gamers out there, let me share something :

Check out these clips from 4 games : FF8, FF9, FFX, Kingdom Hearts

Sometimes i think playing games are not a waste of time, there's more beauty contained in it than in any movies u ever watched. U can learn a lot from the storyline. And it's not just abt stories and songs, but some games are kinda.. philosophical and meaningful.. =p

And I think RPG is the best genre of all games, and those 4 games above are, for me, the best RPG's i've ever played. The reason behind the beauty of RPGs is because it makes you really get involved in the game. Sometimes it leaves an ethereal touch, and often it involves all sorts of emotions, from disgust, hatred, love, joy, loneliness, trust, hope, helplessness, anger, frustration, strong, determined, emptiness, courage, guilt, you name it, all combined into 1 package. If one day I have free time, how I long to play more RPGs, esp Final Fantasy series..

These few days are supposed to be the most stressful period of the semester, but somehow i don't really feel the pressure, and yet i still feel so confident...strange huh? =p

Well..for those who're havin exams out there, persevere! If u're tired and relaxing now let me share some clips. Here's a clip of my fav movie back then : SpaceJam, the opening really brings up some motivation, and (for me) i think it produces a unique, nostalgic feeling...hehe..i can't describe =p go and check it out yourself, and remember, only the front part! when it comes to the baseball field, just quit! =) Now here's the story..

Sombong? Atau tidak sombong?

Posted by ardianto86 at 07:34 AM on April 29, 2006.

Hari ini di persekutuan pemuda pas pembicaranya ngomong, jadi kepikiran, meskipun sama sekali bukan temanya, hehehe...masalahnya kan sering orang bilang "ini fakta, bukannya sombong" nah, apa sebenernya definisi sombong itu? In my opinion (yg subjektif), sombong itu masalahnya bukannya yang dinyatakan itu fakta ato engga, tapi masalah motivasi, apakah motivasinya biar orang laen ngiri? -_-" Apa itu sombong? Intinya, yg gw pikir, klo maksud nyampeinnya informative, walaupun para audience bakal bilang "wuah", itu namanya gak sombong, tapi kalo maksudnya biar diiri, itu sombong. Hmm...tapi jgn salah juga, yg suka ngebilang orang laen "sombong" itu juga bisa subjektif ato objektif,n yg subjektif itu yg berasa ngiri meskipun cara nyampeinnya bersifat informative, sedangkan yg objektif itu yg emang notice kalo orangnya pengen membuat orang laen iri n gak ada tujuan laen, hehe...sekian, teori saya tentang kesombongan =p

Apakah identitas kita?

Posted by ardianto86 at 07:54 AM on April 29, 2006.

Ini gw dapet dari pp hari ini

Contoh2 identitas yg salah jadi ga guna dikejar :

1)Rambut saya kyk David Beckham (buat yg cowok)

2)Saya mirip Avril Lavigne (yg cewek)

3)Pakaian saya mirip anime2 jepank

4)Saya selalu pake jas rapih biar keliatan elite

5)Saya pengen berotot biar keliatan keren

Identitas kita yg asli :

1)Dicipta segambar dengan Allah (Kej 1:26)

2)Ditebus oleh Allah (1 Kor 6:20)

3)Umat Pilihan (1 Pet 2:9)

4)Warga negara sorga (Fil 3:20)

5)Kudus (1 Kor 1:2, 6:11, 3:12)

Apollo 13

Posted by ardianto86 at 05:14 AM on April 30, 2006.

Yo! Hari ini ntn imax ttg the 1st space mission di science centre with richard n temennya! Film yg membosankan mgkn bagi bbrp orang, but ada kesan tersendiri, hehe..

Emang waktu tk itu gw klo ditanya (ga tau yah mgkn pengaruh buku mengapa begini mengapa begitu) cita2 gw, selalu gw bilang pengen jadi astronot! Well, emang rada muluk2 si, mana mungkin? haha..but yah gw tetep ampe skrg mikir itu pekerjaan yg mulia, resikonya gede banget, n you just do that because of passion and for the pursuit of truth! (investigating nature, or to make a proud step forward to human achievements), bener2 agung, respectable people para astronauts itu.. ga nyesel deh klo pesawatnya meledak ato something happen and they just couldnt get back on earth, or get lost in space floating to eternity.

Well, overall, it's a good film, opens up new dimensions of thinking, and insights of course! N btw, the mission of apollo 13 was dramatic! They almost died when accident occurs but managed to return back safely! In short, their initial mission was to land on moon, but due to this incident, they have to return back before they even landed on the moon (it was close, and what they can do is just gazing thru their space shuttle window to see the moon surface from close). The mission was deemed as a "successful failure". Successful because they returned back safely, and failure because they didnt land on the moon. (well, 13 was not "bad luck" afterall) haha..they've broken that superstition!

But yah 1 hal yg gw masi wonder, klo emang calling seseorang mo jadi astronot, y bother to have wifes or children? =p u can be more serious kan? hehe..don't be selfish astronauts! =p
